Ring of Fire Solar Eclipse -

20 May 2012

This video was assembled from frames taken 3 minutes apart. The frames were taken with a Nikon D700 with 2x teleconverter, attached to a Borg 100ED refractor with Thousand Oaks broadband solar filter, for an effective focal length of 1280mm. Each frame was shot at ISO800, 1/4000 sec.

Clouds began to interfere with the latter part of the eclipse and the sun begins to darken as it sinks low in the sky. The time-lapse sequence goes a few minutes beyond the end of the eclipse, ending at sunset. The horizon is tilted because the camera was oriented so that north on the sun is at the top.
