... is that the car definitely works for us, and works well enough to warrant getting a second one to eliminate the remaining gasoline miles out of our normal commuting. Our normal pattern has been to carpool from our house in Cerritos down to the Orange County Costa Mesa area, where we pick up a second car to go our separate ways to work. Obviously until now, the second car was a gasoline car.

We're not claiming the car will eliminate all gasoline cars (or even all of OUR gasoline cars), but our use of the EV1 fits the original intent of the design, which is to serve as a low-maintenance, short-distance commuter vehicle. In this role, it has been performing very well and we certainly have enough experience (23,000 miles) with the first one to have strong confidence in the second.
