- For shinsa day:
- Please arrive by 7am to help with
set up duties.
- Sign in at 8am. For those trying for 1kyu and all yudansha
ranks, turn in your completed written test at sign in.
Sign in closes at 8:30am.
No late applicants will be allowed.
- Wear your nicest keikogi, hakama, and tenugui. Make sure they
are washed and pressed (or at least neatly folded and without
wrinkles).
- Check each other to make sure everyone is neatly dressed.
- At the 10/15 practice we will write your
participant number on your tare. Remove your nafuda (name tag)
for the shinsa. If your Norwalk patch is removable take it off
as well (ok to leave it if it is sewn on).

Note: the senseis held a meeting 8/31 to decide the participant list.
In addition
to federation requirements (must be wearing full bogu including men,
12 and older cannot request 6kyu, 14 and older cannot request 6kyu
or 5kyu, etc), the senseis took into consideration skill, maturity,
attendance, and attitude.
Application fee is $10 to request youth kyu and adult kyu, $15 for
yudansha.
Make check payable to Norwalk Kendo Dojo.
If you pass the shinsa, you must pay for a rank certificate in
order for your rank to be officially recorded. Menjo fees are
$10 for youth kyu English,
$20 for youth kyu Japanese,
$20 for adult kyu English,
$30 for adult kyu Japanese.
Menjo fees are higher
for yudansha ranks.
We will submit the dojo's menjo order at the end of the shinsa.
Make check payable to Norwalk Kendo Dojo.
Chakuso (how you wear your equipment) is very important.
Put on your keikogi, hakama, and full bogu,
checking yourself in a mirror (practice until you can
do everything quickly and properly without the mirror).
- men himo must be trimmed to 40 cm (15.75 inches).
- kote himo must be trimmed and tied securely
