- Fri 1/6/17: Norwalk Dojo first keiko of 2017
Thanks so much to the moms for making the delicious zenzai and
freshly made mochi dishes! Everything was so good! Kodama Jean also
brought homemade chocolate chip cookies and decorated gingerbread.

- Sun 3/12/17: Team SCKF practice, Norwalk 8am-noon
Norwalk has toban duty. Thank you to Yoon Brian, Kay, and Courtney
for taking care of things!
- Sun 3/19/17: North-South Tournament, San Jose
Norwalk participants include Cho Daniel (11-13yrs),
Chang Jeffrey (3-4dan), Kariya Yoshijiro (5dan and above),
Kodama Jean (senior).
Shinpan include Yoon Brian, Kariya Yoshijiro, Kodama Jean.
Kariya Yoshijiro will also be participating in the iaido embu.
We will leave from the dojo Sat morning 8:30am. Thank you to Yoon
sensei for arranging the van and hotel rooms, and for doing all the
driving!
Congratulations to Chang Jeffrey for being part of the yudansha team
which won NCKF!
- Fri 3/24/17: Norwalk TV filming at Center
Norwalk TV
is doing an in-depth program about the Center, with
a crew out to film judo, ikebana, and kendo tonight.
Everyone please come out so we have a good showing
on TV. We are also hoping to have iaido folks on hand.
Be dressed and ready to go into the gym by 7:20pm.
We had cake (thanks Linda!) to celebrate Chang sensei's North-South
tournament trophy for being on the yudansha team which won NCKF.
- Sun 3/26/17: Center spring clean up
We will need all hands on deck to help clean up the dressing
rooms and storage area. Time is 9am to noon.

mats around 8-8:30pm, and then Norwalk Judo Dojo will come to the gym
around 10pm to start setting up.

Kodama Jean attended and presented a report on dojo activities for
the past year.

6dan promotional exam!
- Frk 6/9/17: Kendo Demo, Burbank Elementary School 7:30p
Thank you to Yoon Brian, Yoon Courtney, Cho Daniel, Kim Ryan,
and most of all Domen Sumi for putting on the demo! It's our first
time at this event, and it's due to interest generated by our demo
for Rascals last year (thanks Sumi and Andy!).
- Sun 6/18/17: Team SCKF practice and send off party, Norwalk 8am-2pm
Final practice for Team SCKF will end early so we can hold a
send-off party to wish them well in San Jose for the US Championships.
Party will be in the parking lot. Practice will end early and the
party will start asap (maybe 10am).

Team SCKF fundraising raffle tickets are now on sale. Help support
Chang Jeffrey and Fu Linda, members of Team SCKF!
Also on sale: SCKF tshirt, $13 each (click on picture at right for
more information).
Deadline for both is 6/9/17.

Tonight will be the last Norwalk practice before the US
Championships in San Jose. Come wish Chang Jeffrey and Fu Linda
good luck!
Tonight is also Okuno sensei's first time back since passing his 6dan
shinsa at iaido camp. We'll end iaido practice early and have a
small celebration to congratulate him!

be on Thursday 6/22.
Our two Norwalk competitors on Team SCKF were Chang Jeffrey (men's
team) and Fu Linda (women's team). Both teams took gold! Woohoo!
The Norwalk contingent included Kodama Jean (all 3 days) and Yoon Kay,
Yoon Courtney, Domen san, Hamamura san, and Yoshimura san on Saturday.

To celebrate gold medal recipients Chang Jeffrey and Fu Linda
(members of the SCKF men's and women's teams which won first place
at the US Championships in San Jose), we will have a victory party
following first practice. Congratulations Linda and Jeffrey!

Congratulations to Kodama Jean for taking 3rd place in the senior
division!
- Restricted parking Mondays 7/10 and 7/17
Ondo practice for the cultural festival will be conducted in
the front parking lot on Mondays and Thursdays in July from 7:30pm.
For Monday keiko, please do not park in the area by the ondo circle,
and be careful of the ondo participants, especially small children.
- Wed 7/12/17: Camp Hanabi kendo demo 1:30-2:30p

- Sat 7/15/17: Okuno sensei celebration, 3pm Venice Dojo
Thank you to Asai Cliff and Mott Harry for hosting a celebration
at Venice Iaido Dojo to congratulate Okuno sensei for passing 6 Dan.
Practice started at 3pm followed by a late lunch.
- Fri 7/21/17: carnival prep 7:30p (no keiko)
All hands are needed to help take out supplies from the storage,
set up our booths, and prep vegetables (bring a knife and apron).
Note: we will not have a shift sign up sheet this year because we will
be very short handed.
Please come all 4 days to help with our annual fund raiser!
Also, each family please bring 6 gallons of water.
- Sat-Sun 7/22-23/17:
Center Cultural Festival, SEJSCC
All hands are needed both days for food prep and manning the food
and gold fish booths.
Times are Saturday 12-9pm and Sunday 11:30am to closing.
See carnival page for information.
We also need volunteers for our kendo demonstration Sat 4pm in the
judo room.
- Mon 7/24/17: carnival clean up 6:30-9pm (no keiko)
All hands are needed to put supplies back in the storage and
clean up.

History of SCKF
commemorative booklet. We need all kenshi, iaidoka, sensei,
and parents to be present to fill out the photo! Please come even if
you're currently taking a break from practice.
Thank you so much to Mr Cho (professional phtographer, and Ryan and
Daniel's dad) for taking our photos!
Note: if you are able to help out with the booklet, it would be greatly
appreciated as we are currently shorthanded.

Kata Practice
On Thursdays from 8/31 until just before team
championsihps, we will have
kata practice at 9:30pm (as soon as Dance Club is done with the gym).
Then on Fridays from 9/29 through 10/13
we will have kata practice at 9pm (instead of ato geiko).
All kenshi 3kyu and above are required to practice kata regardless
of (but especially to prepare for) shinsa.
Lack of participation and appropriate kata proficiency will make you
ineligible for shinsa this fall and next spring.
We need all yudansha to come be partners and help teach!

The seminar was led by 6dan women sensei Kodama Jean (NOR),
Tew Saeko (COV), and Anderson Emi (STYO). Participants came from SCKF,
SCKO, WKF, and even NCKF.
Many, many thanks to Fu Linda for arranging all the refreshments,
dinner, and lunch, as well as
Yoon Brian, Yoon Kay, and Domen Sumi for assisting.
