The 14th World Kendo Championships will be held in 2009 in Brazil. The first round of eliminations to select Team USA were held 11/4/07 (western division). See information package (updated 10/12/07) for full details; see below for a summary.

An announcement letter was sent out by Ariga sensei after the tryouts announcing the results, plus more Team USA information:

Team USA western region tryout summary

  • eligibility:
    • 1 Dan or higher as of 10/27/07
    • 16 Years or older as of 10/27/07
    • U.S. Citizen
    • AUSKF member in good standing
    • mentally and physically well enough to withstand the vigor of traveling, training, and competing at a world class level
    • note: 13WKC Team USA members who apply will automatically participate in the second round of eliminations

  • After all applications were received and reviewed, AUSKF sent more detailed information about the Team Tryouts:
    • women's division applicants will automatically advance to the next round
    • men's division selection tournament participant numbers and leagues have been published (see information packet, updated 10/12/07)
