    Dear Kendo Friends:

    We will be holding a special "Hori Sensei Kendo Seminar" and "Mock Kendo Promotion exam" on March 22. Last year, we conducted the Mock Exam, and it was a great success with many participants.

    We will be holding these events as follows (you can participate in both or in one of them):

    • Location: Butokuden Dojo (1581 Browning Irvine, CA 92606)
    • Date/Time: March 22, 2015
    • Lunch: Bring your own, or there are many restaurants around

    Hori Sensei Kendo seminar

    • Time: 9AM - Noon
    • Hori sensei will be sharing his long time Kendo experience with us (Kendo Kyoshi 7 Dan, Former AUSKF President, IKF WKC Referee, US Team Manager)
    • Eligibility: 3 Dan or higher, or Kenshis applying for 3 Dan in the near future
    • Seminar Fee: Free

    Mock Kendo Promotion exam

    • Time: 2 - 5PM: Mock Exam (Jigeiko after if time permits)
    • Registration Starts at 1:30 PM
    • Application Deadline: March 12, 2015

    • Eligibility:
      • Examinee who will be testing for 3rd to 7th Dan Kendo examinations in the near future (Space is limited)
      • Examiner in Training: 4 Dan and up
      • Open to all AUSKF member
    • Mock Examination Fee:
      • Examinee: $10 (Please make check payable to SCKO)
      • Examiner: Free
    • Videos of the footage of the examination will be provided at a later date.
    • There will only be Bogu part (No Kata)
    • Due to the limited number of participants, if the number of people exceeds our capacity, we may have to give priority to people who has exam at a sooner date.
    • Anyone who wishes to watch is welcome to attend.
    • Results will be posted on our website (without name, only by applicant’s number)

    The purposes of this Mock Promotion Exam are the following:

    1. To provide the examinee an opportunity to experience the examination environment, prior to the exam (Real Examiners will be present and the Mock Promotion Exam will be conducted exactly the same way as a real exam.)
    2. To provide the examinee with an understanding on what the examiners are looking for, during the examination (After each match, the examinees will be provided with comments and advises on what was good and what needs to be improved.)
    3. To provide training to future examiners (Examiners in training will be examining from the side lines, in order to not affect the Examinees. Scores will be taken for future reference from the Examiners in Training. In order to be an official SCKO Examiner, you must attend this training.
