SCKF Sponsorship of Budokan of Los Angeles (BoLA)

Budokan of Los Angeles (now known as Terasaki Budokan) is a project of Little Tokyo Service Center to build a multi-use gym facility in Little Tokyo. SCKF has pledged its support of the Budokan project and has several efforts ongoing, completed, and in the works.

Tournament proceeds

Starting with the SCKF Open Memorial Tournament in January 2016, entry fees have been given a modest increase, with the resulting proceeds being donated to the Budokan project.

2016 Toyota Raffle

Budokan received a grant from Toyota for cars to be raffled off one each year in 2016, 2017, and 2018, In 2016, the winner will receive a 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

  • SCKF's goal is for each dojo to sell at least one 10-ticket booklet.
    • Booklets were handed out at the June 2016 meeting
    • Please collect $100 per booklet ($10 per ticket). When writing checks:
      • make payable to LTSC
      • memo line: Budokan
    • Also collect filled out ticket stubs
      • make sure name and contact information are filled out
      • put "SCKF" as the organization receiving credit
    • For each ticket sold, SCKF will receive $4 back from LTSC.
    • If you receive Budokan Toyota raffle ticket booklets by other means and would like to have them count toward SCKF's group contribution, on the ticket stub write "SCKF" as the organization receiving credit.
    • Note: the cost of buying nonprofit raffle tickets is not tax deductible.

  • Turn in payment and stubs at SCKF BoD meetings through November 2016
    • Return any unsold tickets at the November meeting.
    • If you need more booklets, or more time to sell them, please contact Jean Kodama. The absolute deadline for payment delivery is Monday 11/14/16 (bring to Norwalk Dojo).

2017 Toyota Raffle

SCKF opted not to actively sell Budokan raffle tickets in 2017. However, you may have received tickets in the mail directly from LTSC. See announcement sent to your dojo representative on 9/6/17.

If you do buy a raffle ticket and write in "SCKF" as the organization receiving credit, LTSC will add 40% of affiliated raffle sales to SCKF's total donation tally.

The deadline for LTSC to receive tickets and payments is 11/6/17. Thank you for supporting the Budokan!


Budokan Details

Some of the following information is very tentative and may change as development proceeds.

  • Terasaki Budokan: name change Apr'17 (from Budokan of Los Angeles) following a major donation by the Terasaki Family Foundation
  • Groundbreaking ceremony 8/3/17
  • Gym dimensions roughly 142' X 121'; bleacher design is still tbd
  • Expecting to open by summer 2019
