"La Jamais Contente" ("Never Content") was the first land vehicle to reach 100 km/h. The record (105.85km/h) took place on May 1, 1899, in France. The vehicle was built in France by Camille Jenatzy of Belgium. It had two direct drive 25kW motors running at 200V and drawing 124 Amperes. The tires were Michelin, of course!
