The Pipe Nebula is a dark nebula which obscures the background stars of the Milky Way. A little imagination might be necessary -- the pipe's bowl is on the left side of the photo. In this region are numerous dark nebulae, one of which is the Snake. This region is enlarged and contrast enhanced in an inset. To see this, put your mouse on the image.
