Witch Head Nebula |
The Witch Head nebula is a very, very dim reflection nebula in Eridanus near the South-western border of Orion. The witch head shape is apparent if you look at it with North down. The bright star of Rigel is nearby. Every year when Halloween rolls around, it reminds me that I want to get a shot of it, but this is the first time I've gotten a shot before Halloween.
I actually shot this target as a test of the new Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi dual axis tracker. This image is a result of about 4 hours of 30 second exposures. Over the 4 hour period, the unguided tracking wasn't perfect (within expections for a low cost, lightweight tracker), but just fine for 30 second exposures and polar alignment done with the built-in polar scope.
