5/23/97 - EV1 Update- Charger Saga, Part 6


Finally, 5 months after getting the car, we received our first electric bill. Using only off-peak time charging, we are averaging roughly $0.50/day. At normal household rates, I believe this would cost about $1.50/day. If we charged during on-peak hours in the summer, it would cost about $4.00/day.

For comparison, using our normal gasoline car (Honda Del Sol) was costing us about $2.00/day in fuel. Even our old super-efficient 1987 Honda CRX HF (>50 miles/gallon) costs us about $1.30/day. Fuel cost isn't the whole story, of course, but many people have asked us about this aspect of the EV1.
