Due to the limited space and resources available, we have decided tournament competition will be open to current SCKF members.

For tournament spectators and the celebration dinner, all friends of Norwalk Dojo are invited! We especially want to reach out to former members, family, and friends, to make this a reunion of the past 50 years. We already know we have guests planning to come in from as far away as Utah, Wyoming, Virginia, and Hawaii!

Application forms sent to each SCKF dojo include competitor, spectator, and dinner sign up columns. Please contact your dojo representative to make sure you're accounted for.

Applications are due 9/30/2015. For the tournament, ranks will be as of this date (not affected by shinsa).

Our apologies! Here are some slightly revised and hopefully clearer instructions. See this blank form (xls) to understand the following notes better.

  • in the C)ompete column
    • put a "1" if the member will come to the tournament
    • add any notes in the "notes" column, like shinpan only, not competing, can help with court duty, etc
  • in the A)ttend column:
    • put the additional number of people coming with this member to watch the tournament
    • only count them once (don't repeat on another line for a related member)
    • if it's easier, you can add names to the bottom (see below) insteading of putting a number on the member line
  • in the D)inner column
    • put the total number of people coming to dinner (member plus those they're bringing)
    • only count them once (don't repeat on another line for a related member)
    • if it's easier, you can add names to the bottom (see below) insteading of putting a number on the member line
  • add names at the bottom for:
    • kenshi who paid dues after 7/31/15
    • non-kenshi who can help with court duty (please add note)
    • former Norwalk members currently affiliated with your dojo (please add note)
    • any other guests

For planning and ordering purposes, we need a total count of who will be at the tournament, and a total count of who will be at the dinner, so we would really appreciate it if you could turn in your applications by the deadline (9/30/15).

We do want all friends of Norwalk Dojo to help us celebrate this important milestone, but please let us know well ahead of time so we can plan appropriately. Email norwalkkendo@gmail.com, or contact a current dojo member, with information such as:

  • list of guests attending the tournament
  • list of guests attending the celebration dinner
  • point of contact and contact information
  • feel free to use the bottom section of this blank form (xls) if it helps
  • if you're currently affiliated with another SCKF dojo (what?!?), sign up on their form, with a note that you're a former Norwalk member
Please sign up asap, by 9/30/2015 if possible (80% confidence by this date if better than 100% confidence a month later).

If you are a former Norwalk Dojo member, please verify your name is on the roster list. Also please be sure to pre-register with us, and check in at the sign in table the day of the tournament.

Thank you so much; this is a major undertaking and we can use all the help we can get! Please email norwalkkendo@gmail.com, or contact a current dojo member. Areas you can help include:

  • reaching out to former members. Please look over the rosters we are compiling for the last five decades to see whom you can help contact.
  • court duty, including scoreboard, tasuki, timer, etc (see special notes for volunteers at the bottom of the 50th anniversary page)
  • many other areas, including sign in tables, etc

No donation is necessary. Your presence will be gift enough!

That being said, there will be boxes at the tournament and dinner sign in tables where donations will be cheerfully accepted. If writing a check, please make it out to "Southeast Japanese School (Norwalk Kendo)".

If you would like to sponsor an ad or make a contribution acknowledged in our commemorative booklet, please see our booklet sponsorship form. Contact the booklet chair, Linda Fu, to see if there is still time to submit an ad or include your name on the acknowledgements page of the booklet.

Please email norwalkkendo@gmail.com, or contact a current dojo member.

Thank you for supporting Norwalk Kendo Dojo. We hope to see you in November!
