- Fri 1/5/18: Norwalk Dojo first keiko of 2018
Quick review of dojo policies:
- new beginners
start on 1st Friday practice of odd numbered months.
Please encourage friends and relatives to join; we
especially need kids!
- etiquette is of primary
importance in kendo
- 3kyu and above (and sometimes below!) should be able to lead
warm up exercises
- 2dan and above should be able to lead
kihon-dosa exercises
- kenshi in full bogu expected to participate in
- monthly tournament
(last Mon odd, last Fri even months)
- 3kyu and above: Fri ato-geiko
- to advance in rank: see the

- notify the dojo in writing for lengthy absences (send email to
norwalkkendo@gmail.com)

AUSKF and SCKF federation dues
Federation dues are by age:
17 and under: $44,
18 and over: $86.
Deadline is Wed Mar 21.
If you cannot bring payment to the dojo by this date please email
norwalkkendo@gmail.com
so we can at least get you signed up.
Note: please sign up now even if you don't think you'll be able to
participate regularly until later in the year. There is no benefit
to delaying (federation dues are not prorated, so they are the same
whether you join now or in December).
For returning yudansha, your membership will be continuous from
last year and you will be eligible for the SCKF Championship
tournaments in June and September.
We need new members, please contact your
friends and family. And all former members are welcome back!
If you know anyone who is "missing in action", please contact
them to let them know.

Everyone (who is not doing keiko tonight) please come out to help
with clean up of the kendo areas: storage room (clean up/reorg),
classrooms 2/3 (sweep/mop floors and clean walls), and kitchen (kendo
area of refrigerators).
- Sat 3/24/18: Funeral services for Hamamura Junko, Anaheim
Funeral services for Hamamura sensei's mother will be held at 10am
at Anaheim Free Methodist Church, 1001 N Mayflower St, Anaheim CA 92801.
Inurnment service will be at Rose Hills at 2pm.

3-4 dan. Chang sensei was also on the SCKF Yudansha Team which won,

Please come help make inari sushi (400 pieces) and fruit center
pieces from 2pm-5:30pm. If you can stay for dinner, we will provide
you a free ticket ($25 dinner). Please reply by Wednesday.
Also, the center is trying to get a donation for Disneyland tickets
to give away at this year's festival in July. They need 15-20
recognition dinner volunteers (preferably 18 and under, can be
through their parents) to volunteer through
this link.

Nisei Week Tournament, Alhambra
Norwalk participants include Liao William (10 and under);
Kim Ryan and Cho Daniel (11-13); Cho Ryan (16 and older);
Chang sensei, Kariya sensei, Kodama sensei (shinpan). Cho Daniel will
give the pledge of the competitors. Also, Kozawa Susie (guest iaido
sensei at Norwalk from Seattle Kendo Kai) will perform iaido enbu.
We have set up toban for this tournament, so everyone please come help!

June

Bento orders due 5/25 ($10 each). Kodama Jean attended and
presented kendo's report.
- Mon 6/4/18: no iaido practice
We will have kendo practice as usual, but no iaido practice
(taking a break after iaido camp).
- Fri 6/8/18: Kendo demo at Burbank Elementary School, 6:45pm
Thank you to Chong Connie, Kariya Yoshijiro, and Kodama Jean for
participating in the demo at the last minute, and to Domen Sumi for
leading the demonstration again this year!

Ondo practice for the cultural festival will be conducted in
the front parking lot on Mondays and Thursdays in July from 7:30pm.
For Monday keiko, please do not park in the area by the ondo circle,
and be careful of the ondo participants, especially small children.

We will practice kata during ato-geiko on Fridays (instead of
kendo) to prepare for the fall SCKF shinsa, unless otherwise noted.
